Designing and engineering in full 3D

Ferries innovation

 

Each ferry is designed and engineered in full 3D. This enables Damen to efficiently plan and execute the construction. Every space in the vessel is virtually fitted-out to evaluate weight and performance, as well as to create efficient lay-outs. 3D engineering is the point of departure for complex logistical processes that makes global construction possible.

Propulsion with LNG

Damen has developed several attractive ecological solutions for vessel propulsion. These deliver large reductions in NOx and PM emissions. Efficient hull forms and lightweight materials mean that energy demand can be reduced to very modest levels. Ferries are ideally suited for LNG propulsion. Tailored designs are also available.

All Damen vessels benefit from knowledge gathered by ongoing research programmes conducted by the Damen Group. Damen works alongside world-renowned research institutes including the Delft University of Technology, Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) and the Netherlands Organization of Applied Scientific Research (TNO), as well as other reputable universities and leading maritime companies.

The vessels are continuously improved, becoming ever faster, quieter, more cost-effective and more environmentally friendly. Many years of research have also led to some truly pioneering designs such as the Enlarged Ship Concept and the Sea Axe bow.
